AGR Renewables is delighted to announce the sale of its 70MW Breach Solar project located in Cambridgeshire, UK, at ready-to-build (RTB) stage to Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust (ORIT). The total cost of acquisition and development is expected to reach £50m. AGR was retained to provide support during the construction and integration phase.
Breach Solar project encompasses a 70MW solar installation coupled with a 50MW/100MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), expected to reach read-to-build status in late 2022. The project is expected to begin construction in Q4 2022.
Upon completion, the solar project is designed to generate clean renewable electricity to power 18,000 households, while the integration of the 50MW BESS system allows the energy generated to be stored and supplied to the grid when it is most needed, as well as providing grid stability services to National Grid.
Additionally, the project will contribute to the long-term reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, solidifying United Kingdom’s commitment to a sustainable future.
AGR Renewables is dedicated to bringing a positive impact on the local community. Throughout the construction and operation phases, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities and support the local economy.
The scheme brings significant biodiversity gains and habitat improvements as well as continued farming of the land by way of sheep grazing. AGR Renewables acknowledges the support of the local community and relevant authorities throughout the planning process, which has been vital in ensuring the project’s success.
Luke Rogers, Head of Solar & Storage Development, AGR: “We are delighted to announce the sale of Breach Solar, one of our largest projects to date to date, to ORIT. Once operational, Breach Solar will make a significant contribution to the national and regional net zero ambitions providing clean renewable energy to 18,000 homes from 2023 onwards.”
Oliver Breidt, Co-Founder, AGR: “AGR is excited to announce the sale of a landmark project to Octopus Renewable Infrastructure Trust, in what we consider the start of a long and prosperous relationship with one of the most technologically advanced companies in the sector.”
