AGR Power receives planning consent for 160MW BESS project in Lincolnshire

AGR Power is delighted to announce that it has been granted planning consent for its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project located near Bicker, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom. The project received approval from Boston planning authority on Wednesday 5th February 2025.

The project encompasses a standalone battery installation with a capacity of 160MW, designed to store electricity for up to 2 hours from renewable sources. This will provide essential stability to the UK’s power grid and act as a reliable backup during periods of peak demand.

AGR is dedicated to bringing a positive impact on the local community. Throughout the construction and operation phases, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities and support the local economy.

AGR has been working closely with National Grid on a portfolio of projects for several years and is delighted that this project is now approved and can proceed to the next phase.

AGR Power acknowledges the support of the local community and relevant authorities throughout the planning process, which has been vital in ensuring the project’s success.

Luke Rogers, Project Development Director, AGR: “We are very pleased to have received planning consent for our Vicarage Drove BESS project and look forward to moving into the construction phase in due course. The project will provide valuable support to the National Grid at a key point on the network and will contribute to a stable and robust grid infrastructure going forward as the UK continues to integrate more renewable energy sources. Supporting the integration of low cost renewables into our energy mix not only supports the decarbonisation of our energy system, but also displaces more expensive fossil fuels and will result in lower consumer energy bills.”
